It’s time to write a story based on The Tempest by William Shakespeare. The play is set on a deserted island but any setting will do as long as it’s an isolated place – cut off from the rest of the world.
⊕ Go through the steps below to create your story...
Print this out:
1. imagine an isolated world.
- a lonely planet
- an underwater city
- an abandoned ice-station
- a crippled spaceship
- a desert prison
- Choose your own idea
The setting must be as remote and cut off as possible.
2. Choose three characters to be in the story...
- The ruler (He has special powers).
- The unwilling servant (also has special powers. Want's to be free).
- The lonely daughter (lives with the ruler).
- The ruler's evil brother (he's always scheming and plotting).
- The monster (everyone hates him).
- The young visitor (he's so handsome!)
Have you choosen three?
3. Imagine problems for your characters.
- You are getting old and your powers are fading.
- Who should rule if you retire?
- You are so bored of living with your father!
- Everybody hates you and it makes you sad.
- Everybody hates you and it makes you want to kill them!
- You are fed up with your job and long to see the world.
- You hate your brother and you are jealous of his powers.
- You don't trust your brother.
- The lonely girl is so beautiful. You've fallen in love at first sight.
- Choose your own idea
4. Choose one (or two) things that unexpectedly come into the story.
- A storm machine
- An invisibility cloak
- A book of spells
- A barrel of drugged wine
- A visitor
- Choose your own idea
Choose two!
5. Write the story from the most exciting part.
If you are working with a partner - write one line each.
